The Alpaca Shop at Village Farm Alpacas in located right at the alpaca farm in the historic Maine ship building village of Waldoboro. Every thing in the shop is alpaca!
And because we are a farm store and not a traditional retailer, we have no rent and no payroll…without the overhead we can offer terrific prices on our locally produced yarn and on fine alpaca products like sweaters, blankets and shawls. When you visit our shop, you will find that we love to educate the public…in fact we offer an informational tour of our farm and herd as a “thank you” to our store patrons in order to educate them about the products they have just purchased. Alpaca fiber is the result of 5,000 years of breeding by various cultures in Peru and Chile to produce a fiber that is as fine as cashmere. The fineness means more trapped air which creates super insulation that makes alpaca four times warmer than wool. Plus… alpaca is totally hypo-allergenic and never scratchy like some wool products. The shop is run by alpaca breeders Terry and Bonnie Callery, the owners of the alpaca farm…Bonnie is a weaver and spinner.
